Red Shift Hijinks was written in 2005 as a celebration of the music & poetry of Carl D. Clark on the occasion of Carl’s 60th birthday. The title of the piece comes from Carl’s untitled poem (reproduced above) that first appeared in 1976 in the volume Desire, chasing a cow (POETRY) published Noumenon Press. Carl died in December 2010 after a life that was an unbroken 62-year commitment to the arts, to community and to a genuine politics of courage. Thank you, uncle, for pointing the way.
First performances
World premiere by the Argento Ensemble on 13 October 2012 in Paine Hall on the campus of Harvard University.
